tennis?

believe it or not, i once was a tennis player. well.. i only played a little when i was in first grade, so i guess it doesn't count.

here's the story behind it: my whole life i defined myself as a basketball player (don't worry i'm not talking about first grade) and i started when i was around 6 years old. however, before basketball, tennis used to be my passion. i was born in a soccer dominated country, meaning that people lived with soccer; they talked soccer, they played soccer, they watched soccer, they fought over soccer and so on...

after school, i would play soccer with my friends for hours. my parents were not big soccer fans, so they suggested that i played some other sport. luckily for them, my school was a modern school meaning that they would have none of the barbarism that soccer brings in the school grounds. instead, they encouraged students to play sports such as tennis or volleyball, which were a little more elite in my country back then. (i guess tennis still is)

they would give us tennis lessons in pe. it became apparent one day that they were going to create a team that would travel. (remember, we are still in 1st grade) the tryouts would be among players that the coaches believed could play, and being the multi-sport prodigy i am, coaches told me to tryout too. after a month of intense training for a 1st grader, i didn't make the team. and tennis was over for me.

instead, i've decided to focus on basketball, it was my new passion. i trained for years in order to become the best player i can. i was neither the best, nor the most athletic. but i was a hustler and the last one to leave the gym. i really mean that. some people just be like "yeah i live in the gym, blah blah" but i really mean it. i loved the sport.

stuff that i might write about in the future happened and i had to stop playing recently. now i am thinking about a return to tennis. we'll see whether it is a dumb idea, or a long awaited reunion.
